Interesting take and truth be told, probably exactly what John Lennon had in mind when he wrote the song.

Sad and true. I think that is what John Lennon sang and hoped for. It is written elsewhere (don’t remember) that he sold his soul to the devil.
One thing odd is that John Lennon said he was more popular than our Lord Jesus Christ. Soon after he was gunned down.
It was written on line (anyone can find) that he sold his soul to the devil in exchange for so many years (20?) of absolute fame and fortune. He was shot the minute the years were up. Strange that he had Jesus Christ in his mind. Maybe a call from God. Anyway, I loved the music of the Beatles. Had kind of a strange feeling about some of the words though. He was truly a great master of the art of music. Very sad.
