Lockdown sceptic Mike Yeadon: Fact checked

Ex-Pfizer scientist turned lockdown sceptic Mike Yeadon appears in a video liked thousands of times on social media telling mistruths about the pandemic.

He first claims: “You don’t need masks, they don’t work.”

Masks do work. Masks have been shown in various studies to reduce the transmission of viral particles. Links to these studies are included in our article, which you can find at the top of this description.

It may be the case that respirators work better than surgical masks, but surgical masks are still beneficial. There is a reason why they are used and have been used for decades in healthcare settings.

Mr Yeadon then says: “Forget lockdowns, they never slow transmission which took place mostly in institutions like hospitals and care homes.”

The effect of lockdowns on reducing transmission has been covered by various scientific papers. Links to these papers are included in our article, which you can find at the top of this description.

Theoretically, you would expect lockdowns, which limit the interaction of humans, to slow the spread of a disease which is spread by person-to-person contact.

Circumstantial evidence also points to this conclusion. In England, there have been three lockdowns, in March 2020, in November 2020 and in January 2021. In each case, following the introduction of lockdown measures, cases and deaths which had been rising, then fell.

It is worth noting that Mr Yeadon’s previous explanation for why cases and deaths fell in the spring of 2021 was that herd immunity had been reached which was evidently not true as tens of thousands of excess deaths were recorded over winter.

As for the claim that transmission mainly happened in institutions, there isn’t enough evidence to say this. Some studies point to contact within households being responsible for the majority of infections.

We’ve written before on how it’s hard to know whether cases of Covid-19 in hospitals are actually due to hospital transmission.

Mr Yeadon then says: “You don’t need to be vaccinated by inadequately tested and somewhat dangerous gene-based spike protein-inducing proteins [sic].”

Three Covid-19 vaccines have been approved by the UK regulator for use at the time of writing: the Moderna vaccine, the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, and the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Multiple stages of trials have proved that these three vaccines are safe and effective. Although a possible link between the AstraZeneca vaccine and an incredibly rare kind of blood clot is still being investigated, the benefits of the vaccine far outweigh the risks for most people.

The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines both use mRNA “gene” technology which, once inside the body, provides the instructions on how to produce spike proteins like those found on the surface of the Covid-19 virus, prompting the body to generate antibodies. This is not dangerous.

Michael Yeadon, a former employee of Pfizer, said that the government rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine is an attempt at “mass depopulation” with booster recipients expected to die within two years.

  1. I would encourage people to stop “following the media.” Pull back for awhile, then begin by observing people, listening without responding, and contemplating what people are truly saying (Also reading between the lines.). Then begin by reading the founding fathers own words, reading the federalist papers, and read history books from before the last century, as a comparison. Find books about the Soviet Union and WWII Germany, including North Korea, from authors who actually lived there (Both sides, pro and against.), but be mindful. An honest person can differentiate over time what makes sense, what is opinion, what is forced beliefs and agenda, and what is personal experiences, and what can be extrapolated from both. For me, I have a tendency to get bored, fall asleep, when I sense an author’s lack of genuine purpose or propaganda, because I’m not looking to be or appear smart, but to truly understand, which takes a lot of time. I think what’s key here is not feeling like we have to “know anything,” seem smart to other people, or get attention for knowing anything, but just wanting to understand the makings of a country, why people do what they do, but also have balance through our jobs, family, and hobbies. This all takes time. The founding fathers, as I see it, were for the most part honest and genuine, but they lived in times very different from our own. And history will judge this generation of people as having lost their rockers.

    1. You stated a lot of good points. From my point-of-view, history is dying and near death. Biblically— all of man’s actions are in the book of life. God will judge us. 🙏

  2. I’ve wondered about that. I think honest people make honest mistakes, in the sense that, they’re doing the best they can with the information we imperfect people have. But that’s not what I’m referring to here. An honest person, if they are all the way, won’t be pulled into arguments that are rhetoric or propaganda.

  3. The “trick,” if one words it that way, is to think for yourself, meaning honesty. Honest people don’t get pulled into the media games.

      1. Perhaps, but not for long. But that’s neither here nor there. The thing is to listen, observe, and with time, thinking for yourself (Most people don’t know how to do this which requires clear thinking people to speak clearly and confidently.), discovery occurs. And never ever allow someone to make you think otherwise.

Those behind the “widely discredited” meme have been shown to be “Willing Advocates of Necessary Knowledge Evaluating Real Science.”

  5. There is always, has been for a very loooong time, a war for our minds. Thinking for ourselves with responsibility is an answer.

  7. Those who have watched the media, like in the 50’s when they had children duck and cover, realize the government, or certain people in the government, have used fear as a way of motivating the populace to their own ends. Unfortunately, all too-many are afraid of thinking for themselves. **One of my friends had a heart attack, then rehabbed, changing her lifestyle to lengthen her years on Earth. She refused the vaccine because she never gets the flu, never really gets sick (The heart attack was due in part to a stressful career, which led to prediabetes, then the heart attack. She changed her career, doing now what she’s always wanted to do. Happy.). She’s now doing better than ever. I guess she figured she survived a heart attack. Not going to let the world tell her what to worry about.

    1. Today we have big government which is far worse than the USA government of the 1950s. Your friend has a healthy attitude, one that many should form. To conquer the enemy, people everywhere must find their unite, away from differences, and by God’s empowerment through prayer.

      1. I’m always wary of uniting or the word “we”. The country was founded upon “We the People” but I don’t think that meant what many think. I believe, at her best, America was founded upon the idea of belonging to a group, or country, of non-belongers. I know. That’s not entirely possible, because we do need to work together. However, why America became is because so many did think for themselves, and many would not give up their understanding, awareness, and experiences that led to the former to anyone, choosing risk and difficulties over security. Oh, by the way, if you read it right, she’s alive and working, doing quite well. I think she has many more years of being a positive example for others in her life.

      2. Hi again. Observing the Covid pandemic and vaccinations should make all men wary. And, wary is wise. The world and people who live in it today are extensively different, unarguably. America initially belonging to founding immigrants, I view as a door opener leading to a hopeful unite. Difficulties over security is the current happening in America. People today are having problems thinking for themselves because there is much to contend with in our world filled with power gains and the acquirement of other values like never before. Sorry for the previous oversight. We need God. God will lead us.

      3. Actually, before, during, and soon after the American Revolution, people were very diverse. But as you say, prayers. Back then, belief was common place. Everybody knew God is.

  8. You know I am so tired of arguing this if your republican you don’t believe in the virus, mask or the shot and if your a Democrat well you believe in all 3. To the best of my knowledge the virus is well a virus and does not actually have a political party that I know of… I always wondered if like small pox and polio were political or at least had political affiliation? What say you?

    1. AOC cannot comprehend the eerie behavior of all. Many of us have personal stories, not divulged for violating others. We should question, why so many vaccines (there being so many only indicate people are being used as human guinea pigs)? Why isn’t there one vaccine? Why are people taking chances? Why can’t pharmaceutical companies with cdc start with one vaccine? Why wear a mask still after being vaccinated? Why are children omitted from wearing masks in supermarkets but must wear them in other public places? Why can’t our primary physicians administer our vaccinations? We can go inside supermarkets for food wearing a mask but cannot go inside churches wearing a mask to get our spiritual food! Smallpox and polio were possibly politically problematic too because of wartime implications and suspicions; but today is far worse because man has become so empowered in himself and with himself in the world, not realizing that God is watching the ignorance of worldly power, control and abuse. We are living within the end-time gospel and evil is upon us in both obvious and covert ways.
      Matt 24:3
And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? Matt. 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
