“Suicide Bridge” Pasadena California

Pb

Colorado Street Bridge goes by another name, one with a more tragic story behind it, the “Suicide Bridge.” The city plans to replace the temporary fencing with permanent barriers, at least 7.5 feet (2.3 m) in height.

Between 1919 and 2017, the bridge saw more than 150 deaths,(whereby people leaped to their deaths).   At one point, rumors of the site being haunted even arose.

The bridge had a bad reputation before it was even built, as a construction worker fell to his death and landed in the wet cement under the bridge.

The number of deaths spiked during the Great Depression, but did not stop there. According to one of the most popular stories, a mother threw her baby first and then jumped. The child survived, as it landed in a tree unharmed, but the mother died.

The balustrade was replaced by an 8-foot-high (2.4 m) barrier in an effort to deter suicides. Still, on October 27, 2015, British-American model and reality television star Sam Sarpong leapt to his death.

In 2016 a 10-foot-high (3.0 m) chain link fence was installed on the sidewalk inside the balustrade, blocking the seating alcoves which were believed to be the primary route taken by jumpers. In 2017, there were nine deaths.

In 2018, there were four by September. After police spent 13 hours successfully negotiating with a would-be jumper, these temporary barrier fences were extended to cover the entire bridge span.

    1. Hello Jeanne. I have a lot of friends in the location near the bridge. The bridge being haunted, is a new one for me. I think I should go visit my friends, get with a bunch of them and check things out, preferably at night, protected. Seriously.

    2. All ghostly presentations and documentaries so far have not been impressive. May this post and comments attract the intrigue for findings that will give us stronger evidence. Thanks for speculating on these occurrences. Take care.

    4. One night when we stayed there, in the old section, we were up on the 4th floor, which is known as the nursery. About 11:00 PM, my husband had already gone to bed, I heard a young girl, like a nanny singing “You are my sunshine”, and little kids running with a ball down the hallway. NO ONE was there. That lasted for awhile. Other people heard it too. My husband didn’t hear a thing.

Another time when we went, we were taking the tour, and we were down in the basement. A lady standing next to me was taking pictures of everything on her phone, then all of a sudden, her screen went white and went into video mode. Her pictures before and after were fine, but it was just down in the basement for about 10 seconds.

There is also the Phoenix gold mine, in Idaho Springs that as lots of paranormal activities too.

    5. I have no doubt about the occurrence especially because other people have shared strange ghost stories. Sprits are in the world living on. Stephen King stay at the hotel and his film the Shining is similar to what you’ve shared. Our world is spiritual and flesh. Unusual things happen and there is so much to share about them.

    6. Please read Star Signs book by Linda Goodman. I am not an astrological person. And I had assumed Goodman’s book would be about astrology but it was not. Her book is about life experiences and haunting.spirits. You will be amazed. Sincere regards.

    9. I thought I did already. But if not, here you go. I had two encounters while visiting The Stanley Hotel, up in Estes Park. The first one was when we stayed overnight, on the 4th floor. The 4th floor was known as the nursery. My husband had already gone to bed, and was sound asleep when I heard a young girl, who was the nanny, singing “You are my sunshine” to kids running and playing down the hallway. Except when I looked out the door, NO ONE was there. Other people were saying they heard the same thing. Another time, I was taking the tour, and everyone was taking pictures all along the way. While we were in the basement, someone who was standing right next to me had been taking photos with her phone, when all of a sudden, her phone went into video mode and just went completely white. It lasted for about 10 or so seconds. All of her pictures both before and after were still photos, and all came out fine, but not that one.

    1. One source says there is a brook at the bottom. You and I both know that a brook is not enough water to allow for a body float. Trees would work for a safe landing.
